Schoolgirl Costume

school.jpg

As far as schoolgirl costumes are concerned, this one’s hard to beat. Though this uniform would have never passed inspection at an Episcopal or Catholic school for kindergarten through twelfth grade, the colors – light pink and blue gray with the argyle pattern definitely would have, and with flying marks or ah, colors.

The blue-gray skirt is pleated but its way too short; the above the knee argyle socks, continue the pattern on the way too-small vest. The pink shirt is a little too sheer and should be tucked in and the neckline for a schoolgirl is way too revealing.

For the over the knee argyle socks to be effective, this costume needs a leggy girl to do it justice.

Pirate Costumes

There aren’t many boys have not wished at one time or another to be a pirate. There are probably a lot of girls that have too, for that matter.

With the recent success of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, pirates may just be making a comeback. With lots of options to choose from, this can be a fun theme to work with for a costume party or Halloween. There is the classic pirate look with tight pants, loose shirts, wide belts, boots, eye patch and of course the hook for a hand.

It is fairly safe to say you can begin adding to that look and people will still recognize you. For example you could add a parrot on your shoulder or a leather bag or pouch on your waistband filled with gold coins.

If you are going to a party and you are taking a date, really authenticate your look by having your date dress like a sexy pirate wench with a flowing skirt and loose white shirt with a tight, buttoned vest and the tallest, thigh high tie-up boots you can find.

Kiss Costumes

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008

Although KISS has not enjoyed the huge success in recent years as they did in the late 70’s and early 80’s, they have had a strong, steady influence in the music industry. Not to mention the costume industry.

Since back in the 70’s when KISS first became a household name, people have been trying to dress and look like the members of KISS. While the wild way that they dress is really quite simple, it isn’t like anyone has a lot of items lying around in their closet that are likely to work for a KISS costume.

First, you would need to find a black body suit and start adding layers. Basically, you need to go for as much black and silver as possible and platform knee high boots in the most outrageous style you can find. Capes and really large, gaudy belts would help enhance the outfit and don’t forget the makeup.

Once you apply the makeup, it will be quite easy to tell who you are dressed as.

Barbarella Costumes

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008

Barbarella is an old time science fiction character that was played by Jane Fonda in the movie in 1967. Many people may not even be familiar with it today, but when the movie was released everyone was in love with the various costumes that were used for the character. With lots of see thru plastic spots, lots of fur and even one with a tail, it makes a very fun costume for a party or even just for Halloween.

You may spend a lot of time explaining who you are to people but you will certainly get plenty of attention with a Barbarella costume.

To really be recognized, you would want to add a big, poofy blond wig, some knee high pirate boots and a silver gun. Although a real silver gun probably isn’t necessary, it should be fairly easy to come up with something that looks close enough to the real thing, without getting you arrested for having an unauthorized gun.

If you need more help, there are lots of pictures on the internet that you could take a look at to get some ideas.

Grease is the word! This amazing movie and Broadway show based on character’s from the 1950’s certainly had a look all its own. With the Capri pants, the leather jackets, lots of make up and hair spray, not too mention the poodle skirts and pretty blouses on all the good girls, everyone can relate to some character in Grease.

There is always the famous T-bird look for the guys or the Pink Ladies for the girls, although you may have a tough time finding a pink leather jacket.

The easiest way to come up with a costume for a character from Grease is to watch the movie. This probably won’t even require you to rent the movie considering it plays on most cable networks on a regular basis still. Watch your television listings for a week or two and you can probably catch it on at some time or another.

Then consider thrift shops and consignment stores as a place to start looking for your Grease costume.
