Great Halloween Costume Ideas for Babies

Sunday, June 5th, 2011

Even though it seems like the celebration of Halloween, and the time-honored tradition of Trick-or-Treating, has declined in recent years, many parents still opt to give out candy at the door (and send the kids out to get theirs). Maybe it’s all the heated rhetoric about “socialism” that has dampened the spirits of the Great Pumpkin. Maybe it’s just a general anxiety about child safety that some say threatens to rob them of their childhood.

Trick or Treat

Whatever the case, for those who enjoy the holiday that began as a harvest festival, the costume choices are better than ever. When it comes to picking out a Halloween costume for older children, it can be a matter of headache-management. The parents’ reprieve comes when they get to dress up the baby. Unlike older children, infants don’t have any input into the decisions or details… They just look cute in whatever outfit you want to put them in!

Keeping Things Simple

To be sure, ghost costumes aren’t a good idea, what with the covering of the head and face; in fact, most masks are not appropriate for babies. Neither are dramatic accessories like wax fangs, plastic horns or six-shooters. Some of the more gruesome, Fangoria-esque costumes also just don’t sit well on an infant. With such elaborate ideas sidelined by common sense, many people can find costume ideas and materials that are commonly available in most households.

Make-up actually is a great option, leading to caricatures of such well-known characters as Tony the Tiger or Garfield. Some outfits are very basic, such as a regular jump-suit with black and yellow material added to create a bumble-bee baby, a bear baby or a penguin baby. Some Moms are content to grab a curly wig and some rouge and turn their baby into a Cabbage Patch Kid. Sports outfits are also acceptable on Halloween, but we know you can do better than that! Babies also make cute chickens, with some white taffeta and a creative headpiece rounding out their existing cuteness.

Looking for lovely transportation cotton baby bedding to use this Halloween.

Best Costumes that include Your Children’s Eyes

Sunday, April 24th, 2011

Most children want to look good in costumes—be it for Halloween, Christmas or Easter or any holiday where they need a costume but some children have a hard time because they wear glasses. However, there are some great costumes that work well with glasses. There are several ways this can be done and it won’t cost you “an arm or a leg.”

Find a Mask that has Plenty of Room

First, find a Halloween mask that has plenty of room so that it fits easily over eyeglasses. You don’t want the mask to press too hard against your child’s face. An example might be a plastic Green Lantern mask, a full latex Frankenstein head mask or a Harlequin mask. Let your child try them on to see which ones fit the best. You can also make your own if you can’t find any in the stores. With a little imagination, some sewing and some face paint, you can create a unique and great looking mask at home. In the past, many children have put on a paper sack, cut out areas for a smile, eyes and nose, decorated it with different colors and had a great time. This is a cheaper way to go, but just as effective and fun!

Try a Harry Potter or Clark Kent Disguise

Then, there are costumes that work great with masks such as Harry Potter costumes or Austin Power costumes. In addition, there is the famous superhero—Clark Kent/alias Superman. If the superman costume is selected, the child wears a regular outfit along with his glasses and underneath the outfit, has on a Superman t-shirt. And, you can dress up as a pumpkin and no one will notice the glasses; they will be focusing on the pumpkin. Also, you can wear outfits of a construction worker, a fireman, a teacher, a doctor, a farmer or waitress. You could also go dressed as a hippie and wearing glasses with this kind of outfit would fit in like flint!
